Interior design for the office of the DEMOCRACY & MEDIA FOUNDATION.
MDID. was asked to do the interior of the new office for the Democracy & Media Foundation in Amsterdam, situated in a building in the centre of the city. The space is light with a very high ceiling of more than 4 meters. The brief was to create a separate office space for private meetings without making the space feel small or less open. Poor acoustics was also an issue so the choice of using cork as an absorbent material as well as it being sustainable was clear. White window partitions create a fresh contrast to the warm cork and industrial beams. The office needed a lot of storage space. Custom-made cupboards with doors with leather handles form a red thread through out the open space. Vintage and second-hand furniture mixed with design lighting and chairs create a homely and warm atmosphere. The foundation “strive for a vigorous democracy and multifaceted, opinionating media”.The Democracy and Media Foundation provides financial support to organizations, projects and other initiatives that promote this mission. The design and materials reflect the philosophy of the company.
